Blank stock by location

Last updated October 23, 2026

For shops with more than one location, for example Location A and Location B. With stock by location on, each location keeps its own blank numbers, so an order at Location A never holds Location B's shirts.

If you have one location, you can skip this article. Your blank numbers are one set for the whole shop.

Stock by location

Turn it on

  1. Open Settings → Inventory → Stock by location.
  2. Switch on Keep stock separate for each location. Nothing changes yet. You see a preview first.
  3. Under Locations that keep their own stock, tick each location that holds stock. By default these are the locations with a warehouse.
  4. In Today's stock is at, pick the location where your current stock sits. All of today's on hand goes there.
  5. In Default location, pick the location that counts orders from a location without its own stock.
  6. Check the cards under After you turn it on. Each location shows its On hand, Reserved, Incoming, and Still needed. The line below them says how many items, open order lines, and purchase order lines setup looks at.
  7. Click Turn on, then Turn on again to confirm.

Setup takes a few minutes. The page shows each step while it runs, and you can leave the page. Open orders reserve at their own location, and purchase orders on the way count as incoming at the location they are going to. When it is done the page says Stock is now kept separate for each location.

Turn it off

Switch off Keep stock separate for each location and confirm. Every location is added back into one total for your shop. Nothing on your shelves changes. If you turn it on again later, setup starts fresh from your totals.

How it works

Each location that holds stock has its own On hand, Reserved, Required, and Incoming for every blank. The rules for each number are the same as for one location. See What On hand, Reserved, Required, and Incoming mean.

What happens Where it counts
An order comes in Reserved goes up at the order's location
The order comes from a location without its own stock It counts at your default location
You move an order to another location before batching Its hold moves with it
A batch is created On hand comes off at the batch's location
A line is unbatched On hand goes back where the batch took it
A purchase order is sent Incoming goes up at the purchase order's Receive into location
A purchase order is received Incoming comes down and On hand goes up at that same location
You import a count Each row counts at its location column, or at Import into

The totals for your whole shop are always the sum of your stock locations.

Choose where a purchase order lands

On a new purchase order, Receive into picks the location. Match the ship to address (the first choice) uses the location whose address the order ships to, then your default location. The purchase order page shows Receive into with the location name.

See one location's stock

  1. Pick the location in the Warehouse menu at the top of the sidebar.
  2. Open Inventory → Stock → Blanks.

The page shows that location's warehouse. The Blank SKUs card names the warehouse you are looking at.

If you are on a location without its own stock, the page shows the total across all your stock locations. That view is read only.

Editing needs a warehouse

On the totals view you cannot change blank stock. The on hand edit, Clear all stock, and blank rows in Add inventory are turned off with the hint Pick a warehouse to edit stock.

Switch the Warehouse menu to the location you want to change, then edit. Clear all stock only clears the location you are on.

See where an order line takes its stock

Open an order item or a batch item. The line shows Stock from and the location name:

  • Before batching, that is where the line is reserved.
  • After batching, that is where the batch took the blanks.

The tag only shows for shops with stock by location turned on.

Move stock between locations

  1. Open Inventory → Stock and go to Blanks or House retail.
  2. On the row you want, click Move stock.
  3. Pick From and To.
  4. Enter How many and click Move.

You can move up to what is available at the From location: its on hand minus what open orders there hold. Units held for open orders stay where they are. The move shows in the item's history at both locations, and your shop's total does not change.

If the item is tracked by bin, the units come out of the bins at the From location, most stocked bin first. A Putaway task opens in the warehouse at the To location, and on hand there goes up as the units are placed. If the bins at the From location hold fewer units than you asked for, the move is refused and says how many they hold.

If something looks wrong

You see Why Do this
Pick a warehouse to edit stock You are on the totals view Switch the Warehouse menu to a stock location
An order reserved at another location It came from a location without its own stock, so it uses the default location Move the order to the right location before batching
Incoming landed at the wrong location Receive into on the purchase order pointed elsewhere, or the ship to address matched another location Check Receive into before you send the purchase order
Reserved did not move when you moved the order The line was already batched Unbatch it, move the order, then batch again
Turn on stays off A warehouse does not belong to any location you ticked Give the warehouse a location, or tick its location
Move says only some units can move The rest are held for open orders at that location Move fewer, or move the orders first
On hand at the new location did not go up after a move The item is tracked by bin, so on hand goes up at putaway Finish the Putaway task at that location
